Not-for-Profit Organizations
We have considerable experience establishing Connecticut non-stock corporations and obtaining IRS determinations of tax-exempt status. Our not-for-profit clients turn to us for advice regarding leases, contracts, loans, real estate purchases, and planned giving issues. We counsel on topics ranging from development of board policies and conflict of interest standards, to employment issues, to questions concerning unrelated business income.
The large number of non-profit religious organizations we count as clients include the Archdiocese of Hartford, the Sisters of St. Joseph, the Daughters of Mary of the Immaculate Conception, and the Vincentian Fathers and Brothers. Our principal clients include social service agencies such as Catholic Charities, residential or elderly care facilities such as Cathedral Green, non-profit professional associations, such as the Connecticut Psychological Association and Community Housing Advocates, Inc., and many educational institutions including elementary and secondary schools of the Archdiocese of Hartford as well as several public school boards of education.
